Welcome to our Family

When I was pregnant with our firstborn, I sent an email to my friends with kids asking for advice. What was it going to be like, where do I shop for all the essential goodies, when will I feel ready and really, will this nausea ever go away?

Nothing anybody said prepared me for parenthood. Sure, I knew that I wouldn’t sleep a lot and I’d figure out how to change a diaper in 30 seconds or less, but pretty much everything else…no way. I don’t think you can ever be fully prepared for the wonderful and overwhelming changes in your life. Maybe you’ll have a fully-stocked nursery, but mentally, emotionally – it is beyond comprehending.

I’m a Mama of two kids, 6 and 3 1/2. I drive a minivan (it is the Swagger edition!), take our kids to soccer and our house has turned into one big giant playroom. On a daily basis, I am left speechless by the munchkins. They make me laugh, scream, cry and bang my head against the wall, but they are mine. Ours. My husband and I are doing a pretty good job raising them. Who would have thought?

Now that we have ushered both of them out into the world of preschool and beyond, I decided it was time for me to go back to work and talk to adults. Oh, and earn some money to pay for said preschool. My former career as a TV producer didn’t offer me the flexibility to be home with our kids. Breaking news and preschool hours don’t mix well. I did a lot of searching and found new ways to save money.

I kept seeing deals on group-buying sites that I liked so I would buy them. Unfortunately, I noticed that I was still paying a lot of cash for play gyms, birthday parties, music classes…the list went on. Where were all the deals for families? As Oprah says, I had an “Aha!” moment and ScoopMama was born. (We’ll get to the trials and tribulations of a start up business next time).

I use a lot of the same advice I got for my kids with ScoopMama. Just like babies, second careers and new businesses teach you things you never expected. Suggestions are always welcome from our extended family – what kind of deals you want to see and how we can make your experience better.

We hope you get to know ScoopMama and enjoy being part of our family. We’re very nice.
